Dear Style Snacks, I am dying to know, if money were absolutely no object what would your decor picks be? Maybe for a bedroom, living room and kitchen? Would be so fun to look at. XO
Let’s stick with it! Today I’m going to talk about my dream kitchen. One thing about me that often surprises people (I grew up in very traditional houses, Lee Jofa everywhere) is I really love a mix of modern, contemporary, and classic decor. I love a pop of something retro, sleek, and unexpected. And I lean even more extreme with kitchens. I love a clean, smooth, sleek, minimal kitchen. White kitchens are timeless and they become more interesting and individual with marble, light fixtures, hardware, paint finishes, and accent choices. Currently, I’m drawn to sleek, shiny white kitchens with fun light fixtures, but I also love a kitchen with earthy materials (veiny marble, cool stone, interesting textures). BUT, I can also go the other way with a blue, pink, or green kitchen as well. To me, the space and your lifestyle really dictates what type of kitchen works. As a single lady, I lean more modern right now, but maybe if I had a family I would lean more traditional with color, who knows!
Here is my current kitchen wishlist:
-Different marble (currently a white with minimal gray, I want something more interesting or honed)
-Different backsplash (glossy zellige tiles are my current obsession)
-Timeless hardware (right now my hardware is trendy and I’m already sick of it)
-More storage (I would love a coffee bar)
-Appliance garage (my brother has one of these and I’m so jealous of it because I love having clean kitchen counters)
-Repaint (I have an island painted one color and the cabinets another, I don’t like this trend and would like them all one color)
Here are some of my favorite kitchens and what I like about them…
1. Marie-Louise Sjogren (designer).I love the marble island, the archway, the windows, and the funky light fixture.
2. Tamsin Johnson (designer). I love this unique island and the juxtaposition of the wooden stools. The hanging copper pots are fab too. I would’ve painted the cabinets in a color that matched the island more. I would do a different light fixture.
3. Nicola Harding (designer), Paul Massey (image). I love the hanging light fixtures and the wall light fixtures. The butcher block island is fabulous. I might have painted the ceiling a very light blue to add some interest to the all white room.
4. Veere Grenney (designer), David Oliver (image). Veere Grenney just does it for me. I love this kitchen and have no notes. I love cabinets, the light fixtures, the retro feel, the windows, the beams, and all of it.
5. Turner Pocok (designer), Richard Powers (image). I love how glossy this kitchen is. It’s simple but still chic. I might do different light fixtures with a gold interior or something different all together to add some interest, but otherwise no notes.
6. Sims Hilditch (designer), Christopher Horwood (image). This is just classic, cozy, and chic. I love the storage on the island, the beams, and the floor to ceiling windows.
7. Handelsmann & Khaw (designer). I love the warm color, the marble, the shelving, and the hidden pantry.
8. Kate Pearce (designer), Heather Talbert (image). I love the retro feel with the marble, wall lighting, light fixtures, and cool stools. I would paint the island and the cabinets the same color instead of two different colors (this is a trend I’m not into)
9. Tamsin Johnson (designer). I love the color and the marble. Fun and different.
10. Flora Soames (design), Tom Griffiths (image). This is such a timeless kitchen with warmth.
11. Bunny Williams (designer). This is Bunny’s actual kitchen. I love the glossy blue and open storage with her items on display. The wood island is exquisite and the only time I’m a fan of the island and cabinets being different colors.
12. Tamsin Johnson (designer). I adore this color, the marble, and the hardware. It is fresh but not too trendy.
13. Welton Finds (designer). I am obsessed with the spindle legs on this island, so fun. I love the blue color and light fixture as well. I would do a different backsplash as I find this one dark and out of date.
14. Thad Hayes, Christopher Spitzmiller (designer), Gil Schafer (architect). This is a precious kitchen with so much character. I love the beams, the sink, the light fixtures, and the small island that works perfectly in this space. The color really ties in with the outdoors/nature as this house is in CT.
