There are so many little things that can transform a space within your budget. I constantly think about doing things and haven’t yet, but I wanted to share with you the types of things that can transform a space at various price points.
Add drawer organizers to kitchen and closet.
Add drawer liners.
Add floating shelves above washer/dryer for more storage and as a way to display planters and vases (I’m in the process of doing this in my own home).
Add in closet strip lighting (@thisoakhouse showed a great way to do your strip lighting with a strip of wood so the lighting isn’t as harsh and you don’t see the unbecoming part of the strip).
Add a valet hook to closet (I just ordered one and am installing it soon. Great for displaying a fun item and picking out your clothes ahead of time).
Change hardware (kitchen, bathroom, and bringing fresh life into an old chest of drawers). Fun fact, I prefer a chrome/polished nickel in a bathroom, because it feels cleaner to me (but my primary bathroom has a brass finish from previous owners). And I prefer an unlaquered brass in a kitchen or powder room. No idea why.
Repaint a chest of drawers that’s beaten up or could use a refresh in a fun new color and/or finish.
Retile around fireplace in a more modern finish OR go completely English cottage and do a delft tile.
Add curtains on either side of french doors that open onto deck. I really like these flop over curtains as they are a bit different and have some personality, so I’m thinking of using these myself!
Repaint walls and/or ceilings. I grew up with faint light blue ceilings that were very cool and now seem to be a trend. I’m intrigued by a blush, faint pink ceiling to add warmth to certain spaces like an all white bathroom.
Repaint doors, trim, or interiors of cabinets/bookshelves in something unexpected. Door can be one color in a hallway and another inside a room. Cabinets can have a pop of color inside which can make for a fun contrast.
Change out interior knobs and doors. I would love to change my bathroom door from a trendy, sliding barn door to a small double door. And I would also love my interior hardware to match.
Move around furniture and rugs to refresh rooms.
Change lampshades and lightbulbs to different shapes and finishes.
Buy new plants for a new season to sprinkle around the house or outside.
Transforming a house into a home takes time! And remember, it will change over time as your needs and tastes change.
