The more interior design books I read, houses I see, and spaces I find myself in, the more I’m drawn to modern interiors. My ten years living in LA might also have something to do with it as I didn’t grow up in a city with many modern homes or much modern architecture. While I don’t think I could live in a completely modern house as it might feel sterile, I do like modern elements and touches in a home. In fact, I think there are certain ways to use modern architecture and interiors to bring warmth to a home. Yes, I said warmth, which probably sounds counterintuitive, since modern spaces have a reputation for being cold, but hear me out. Delicious velvet, rich mohair, bright white walls/spaces with lots of light, rich wooden walls, and so much more, ooze warmth and coziness to me. By expertly pairing modern elements with traditional elements, specific colors, certain lighting, funky furniture, and interesting textures, modern can leave behind the stereotype of being cold and be warm.
