If I’m being honest, I’ve spent my morning procrastinating sending out this newsletter. Since Christmas is approaching, I’m obsessing over making lists. I love shopping (shocking) for Christmas presents. My dad used to give himself presents on Christmas and label them “To: Bill, From: Santa” and he would say “Oh, look what Santa got me, how nice.” I believed him for a long time and was jealous Santa liked him so much. So I am now following his lead and giving myself presents too (hehe)! But, this requires planning, list making, and budgeting (woof). Who do I need to buy things for? What do I want to put on my own wish list? What makes sense and I’ll get good use out of or absolutely love? Should I wait for Black Friday to buy certain things or buy them now (this requires research on Black Friday sales)? For certain items, is it better to shop after Christmas (i.e. Christmas decor, ornaments, etc)? When do I need to order things in time for them to get here for me to wrap and deliver?
I’ve worn myself out from thinking and planning so much this morning. The lists will marinate and wait for a while before I act on them and then I will religiously track everything like I’m running Santa’s Workshop out of my house. This allows for less stress before the holidays, the ability to put out any fires needed in ample time before Christmas, and plenty of time to hunt and problem solve if shopping doesn’t go according to plan. Freaking out and having a meltdown or anxiety attack is what I’m avoiding so I’m not horizontal or in fetal position come Christmas.
Also, when is acceptable to start decorating for Christmas? Decorations seem to be going up around town earlier and earlier every year, which makes me feel behind and like I need to get my shit together. Anyone?
