Instead of hiring a full service interior designer, many people are turning to a design consultancy model. You no longer have to drop tens of thousands on a retainer to work with a designer or commit to a full scale project. Maybe you have a room that you can’t figure out, you need help with a kitchen, or need advice on paint colors and finishes; you can now get help! Many top designers are now offering hourly virtual consults. I personally geek out over this, because I would LOVE to talk to so many of my favorite designers to get their input on my space.
Designer Anna Haines said, “consultancy makes design much more available and allows people to get the expert eye and opinion that any good project needs.” Anna explains working with people through The Expert, “Within an hour, you want to help someone resolve any issues and empower them to go away and infuse their project with the ideas you’ve discussed. Consultancy is all about being as productive and helpful as possible.”
Interior design is being democratized, and it’s welcomed more than ever in this crisis of living we find ourselves in. People can get more bang for their buck and have more control of their budget (big or small). And chipping away at a project in bite sized chunks sound less overwhelming than making a bunch of decisions in a short period of time. I also like the idea of consulting with a designer at different phases of life as needs change to figure out how to make certain spaces work for you in new and different ways. What do y’all think?

Current Obsessions
-Love this on Modern Delftware.
-Some fun Milan Design Week Collaborations.
-Jeff Bezos sold his house in Seattle.
-I’m very interested in this new Richmond startup, Henry, that’s a web-based home assessment service. An accessor will walk around your home and take note of 150 factors (fire hazards, air quality, and any other concerns/potential issues). They will then give you an action plan and a list of vendors. Sounds like a great idea to me!
**DEAR STYLE SNACKS: If you have something you need help finding, troubleshooting, or are curious about, please leave me a comment or send me a message, and I will be sure to feature your question (with the answer) in an upcoming newsletter.**
